Day 20. Château de Chambord

Thursday 19th August
33 Miles

More sunflowers!

James
Very hot today, finally the sun is back!

A mule. We have only seen them in the zoo before.

Susie
A big detour off the Loire to visit our first Chateau, Chambord. We passed a tiny house on the way that said it is for Vignes to stay in, but we don't know what Vignes are. They have a horse apparently. It lives in the house too.

James, pretending he is a Vigne

A post-holiday google translation reveals they are farmers
with widely scattered vine fields

The driveway to Chambord

Along Loire valley to start with then went to Chambord Castle which was Very Big and Impressive!

Chambord is amazing, not at all what I expected. Like a mix of Sleeping Beauty's castle, Alice in Wonderland and Gaudi.

On the roof of the castle

The double helix staircase

It has a double helix staircase they think may have been designed by Leonardo da vinci (he lived near here at the time)

If you start at opposite sides you never meet

We had a long ride afterwards on through the edge of Blois to a little campsite in Chailles.
Campsite is small and nice near Blois. Chicken for Dinner Yum!

Campsite where we first saw the beast.

A mysterious beast came snuffling round our tent late at night, so we had to get up and find a metal bin for our rubbish. (This is the first encounter with 'the Beast')
