Day 21. The Perfect Campsite

Friday 20th August
26 Miles

The Loire on a cloudless day.

Susie
We looked at leaflets of castles and decided that Chenonceau looked pretty cool- so we headed away from the Loire again.

James
26 miles along the L. Valley for a bit, then up and over hills in the hot hot heat.

A pretty bleak spot at the highest point between the river valleys

It turned out to be a pretty hilly route- especially getting up onto the cliffs above the Loire at Chaumont (another castle). Then over rolling hills a bit like back before Leon.  It is very hot. I need a hat.

A perfect place for our tent on a hot day

Found a nice campsite at Chenonceau, just 2 miles from the castle, with a perfect pitch for our tent on the riverbank.

Swimming in the river Cher next to our tent

We went swimming in the river to cool down. Fish and chips for dinner! People here are English, or speak it, and are very friendly. Very nice campsite.

It is even warm enough for James!

Skipped the castle in favour of getting to the campsite early, which is very nice and friendly. On the edge of a river and people on both sides of us are super nice (Dutch and English)

Our tent with Dutch couple, who lent us their hammer to get the pegs into the baked ground

Balloon over the river

Fish and chips for dinner tonight Yum!
