Day 13. Palaces and Pikeys

Thursday 12 August
35 Miles

Leaving behind the British holidaymakers

James:
35 miles of nice flat roads to Abbe du Moncel.

Susie:
Set off through nice towns, not too hilly and lots of very rich peoples houses to Compiegne

The towns look more wealthy, but still deserted

Lots of grand gates leading off into trees

and a few glimpses of mansions

Went to the gardens of the Palace in Compiegne (1337 Rooms) and ate lunch there in the sun.

Chateau du Compiegne

Fois gras and tomatoes on a baguette

Spent lunch in the chateau gardens- very grand.

Was a nice sunny day and we found some real cycle paths for the first time.

River Oise from Campiegne

The best cycle path in France so far

Good, paved, off road cycle path took us 10 miles out of town, but was let down by the travellers dog that tried to bite us and chased our bikes.

The cycle path was not without its problems

On the nice quiet cycle path we came across a couple of gypsie caravans parked on the path. A dog came running towards us barking and growling, and chased us down the road trying to bite our feet!

Abbey du moncel (Murderville)
Campsite looked a bit rough, but we had paid before we saw how bad, full of permanent homes (with post boxes) very run down, but also only half built, the toilets were deserted again.

The deceptively attractive entrance to Murderville

Preparing dinner

Forbidden actvities for children in
Murderville Playground

and this is the playground...

Making the best of it in Murderville

Worst campsite so far, and a 3*!
At 4am we were both awake listening to cars driving around, and wanting to leave.
