Day 14. The Big Push

Friday 13th August
51.6 Miles!

Last photo by the Murderville toilet facilities

James:
51.6 Miles! To Lagny Sur Marne.

Susie:
an epic day. Decided to make a run for the one campsite east of Paris. Woken at 9am by the murderville owner mowing the plots all around ours!

The best thing about murderville is the huge supermarket opposite

We left 'Murder-Ville' ASAP in the morning, even skipped breakfast to get going.

Breakfast by the road. We are also waiting here to avoid some dogs

Away from our camping spot it is still pretty wealthy round here

Ruined church in someone's back garden

Ups and downs and some very nice stone towns in the sun.

Small hills

Back to fields of corn and sunflowers

This is why we are sick of sunflowers

James still had energy and enthusiasm at this point

On entering a forest...

No sign of flying reindeer

a lucky shot

Action shot! The only photo of us both cycling

It was fairly hilly, but getting flatter. Thunder in the distance.

Passing Charles De Gaulle Airport

Lunch at 5pm

Mustard and Mackerel Sandwiches mmmm

Just before his knee exploded

Around the 35 mile distance, right knee starts to have a very harsh stabbing pain with every pedal of the bike.

James' knee exploded (he says) and hills got really tricky. Reaching the campsite was taking forever. We found another one in a wood, but it looked very dodgy, and we were wary after last nights experience.

Luckily the thunder storm passed to our left

The campsite we were aiming for turned out not to exist, it was just a country park

Not a campsite! and not even open :(

Managed to do another 16.6 miles in pain, only to find campsite is a park!! Backtracked to a hotel we had passed- Full! Then on to a  €49 Motel,

So we turned back and found a motel- after 52 miles! Dinner in an out-of-town spanish restaurant was FANTASTIC! paella mmmmm

Our best french food so far is in a fast food paella restaurant by a motorway

James explains why he is allowed to be very drunk.

Yay we have a bed for the night and a nice dinner on the middle round about. Paris on foot tomorrow =)

459 Miles so far.....
