Day 10. Canal de l' Oise

Monday 9th August
33 miles

Forest tracks- no cars!

Susie:
One dodgy campsite to another! Woke to a lovely sunny morning. Made great progress for 10 miles, on deserted straight roads, mostly down, through the forest park.

Forest cycling is fun

James:
33 miles to Vadencourt, a day of not too many big hills. Riding through forest to start with. Finding food has become harder now in France, believe it or not! Everything is shut on a Sunday and then shut between 12.00 midday till 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

made it to the patisserie before it shut for lunch

lunch by the canal

Yum!

At the edge of the park found an Aldi- so waited half an hour for it to open only to find they have little of use- and that in bulk. Ended up very overloaded.

Found some supermarkets and stacked up bikes with as much as possible.

Canal de L'oise

We cycled downstream. It was very pretty but quite hilly, lots of well kept flowery villages, seems we are in a more visited area now.

The campsite is our first 'municipal' and very basic- Just some spaces by the road with very rough showers (but hot) and one non-squat toilet. Still no open restaurants so we ate tinned cassoulet, which was ok. How do tourists eat French food- everything is shut in August!

Municipal camping with ants

Cooking the duck in a tin already as no places to eat tonight, but should still be Yum!
